Gasoline prices continue to hurt a lot of people at the pump as it continues skyrocketing. With gasoline currently averaging $4.126 a gallon in Arkansas (as of today, 5-19-22), it’s an enormous financial strain on many households. Add to that the worst inflation in 40 years and the end result is many more people are now living paycheck-to-paycheck than they were at the start of this year. How can you lessen some of your financial pain at the pump?
Watch your speed. Traveling at 65 mph instead of 55 mph can use up to 17% more fuel. Going 70 mph instead of 60 mph can use up to 23% more. So if the highway speed limit is 70 and you’re doing 75 or 80, you’re significantly increasing your gas usage. The increased wind resistance greatly cuts into your fuel efficiency.
Don’t use a higher octane that your car requires. AAA says there’s much more higher octane gas sold than vehicles that need it. AAA says you’re not treating your car extra special by giving it a higher octane than what it needs. They say if it doesn’t need it, it’s just money up in smoke.
Get a tune-up. Get a tune-up if your vehicle needs one, because two bad spark plugs can increase your gas consumption by 20%.
